言意关系的问题,是中国古代文学批评理论的核心范畴之一。从庄子"言不尽意"的沮丧到孟子"言近指远"的信心;从《左传》"不言,谁知其志?"的困惑到《吕氏春秋》"圣人相谕不待言"的觉悟,中国古代文学批评理论围绕着言意关系所展开的从认识论、方法论到审美终极论的讨论是深入的,所提供的语言文化策略是智慧的。
The relationship between language and meaning has become one of the core categories in thecritical theory of ancient Chinese literature. From the disappointment at 'language's failure in its mean-ings by Zhuang Zi to the confidence in 'words here denoting extensively of Mencious and from the puzzl-ement of 'no speech and who knows his meaning?' in Zuo Zhuan (Zuo's Commentary on the Spring andAutumn Annals )to the awareness of 'the sacred men's communications not by language' in Spring andAutumn of Master Lu, the critical theories of ancient Chinese literature has centered itself around the deepepistemological, and methodological and esthetic ultimate discussions of the relationship between languageand meaning and has provided a wise strategy of language and meaning.
