New Literacy Theory and task design in L2 writing education

摘要 本文评介了新读写理论(New Literacy Theory)及其对外语写作教学研究,特别是外语写作任务设计的启示。新读写理论提出,"文本要联系语境,言语要联系世界",倡导写作任务必须与学生生活密切相关,能实现写作的社会、认知和情感功能,让学生有足够的话题知识和相关资源。本文首先介绍了读写、读写能力以及读写习得等概念的演变与发展,然后在新读写理论视角下重新审视了外语写作教学与研究,在此基础上评述了外语写作任务设计的研究与实践,提出新的任务设计原则,并讨论了在该理论指导下进行的一个任务设计实例。希望本文能对外语写作及读写教学与研究提供理论和实践参考。 The article introduces the theory in New Literacy Studies and its application in L2 writing educa-tion, especially how it can be employed to guide task design in China's EFL context. Advocating 'connecting the text to context, connecting the word to the world', New Literacy Studies require a writing task to be closely related to student's real life, to fulfill the social, cognitive and affective functions of writing and to have sufficient resources for students to tap into. The article begins by introducing the evolving concepts of 'literacy' and 'literacy education' and then reexamines L2 writing from the perspective of New Literacy Theory. Drawing on the above discussion, the author proposes some principles to guide L2 teachers in task design, and shares her teaching practice in China's EFL writing classroom.
