爱伦·坡与“南方性” 被引量：4

摘要学界围绕"爱伦·坡是否属于南方作家"这一问题所展开的地缘文化身份研究历来存在重大分歧。基于此,本文试图回答爱伦·坡文学创作中的"南方性"如何在根本上表征为一种哲学意义上的"阈限性":一方面坡与其他"旧南方"时代的南方作家一样经受了"民族文学"内部的"他者化"(第一次否定);另一方面他又借助"走出南方"的姿态在区域文学内部实现了一次积极主动的"他者化"(辩证意义上的"否定之否定")。这种"双重否定"使得坡有别于同时代那些仅在本区域文化内部偏居一隅的文化异类(譬如梭罗),在社会观察层面上获得了一种超乎寻常的"策略性"。坡对南方社会的介入方式正在于他采取了一种看似"非南方性"的姿态;他始终选择在南方世界的边缘地带徘徊,凭藉"侧视"的独特眼光以及由此所产生的相对安全的批判距离对南方社会问题加以深刻洞察。这使得坡成了一名真正的"闲游客",得以在表面光怪陆离的文学世界中投射出一位南方知识分子对社会问题的严肃反思——"侧视"既是坡"秘密写作"的重要认知理据,同时也表征着其在社会观察中所演绎的"闲游"姿态,这一姿态与生俱来的"阈限性"无疑也是坡作品获得其"南方性"的哲学渊源。
