Conceptualizations and Syntactic Representations of Causative Semantics

摘要致使语义有两种表征方式。一种将致使语义表征为复杂事态中两个事件之间的关系,另一种将致使看作两个参与者之间的力量传递。两种表征方式具有不同的解释力。后者以当代认知语言学中的致使链理论为代表,克服了传统语义表征方式的缺陷,可以对及物句的主宾语选择做出更加准确地预测。而将致使看作事件之间的关联对于句法结构同样具有预测力,并且涵盖了致使链理论无法处理的致使语义。 The semantics of causation has two kinds of representations. One is to represent causation as a relationship between two events in a complex eventuality, and the other as a force transmission between two participants. Each kind has its explanatory advantages. The latter is represented by the causal chain theory in contemporary cognitive linguistics, which overcomes the weakness of traditional approaches to semantic representations and makes more precise predictions of the choice of the subject and the object in a transitive clause. Nevertheless, the representation of causation as a relation between two events has predictability over the syntactic structures too. Moreover, it covers the causative semantics beyond the representation of the causal chain theory.
