Objective To investigate changes in red blood cells and hemoglobin levels of naval aviators before and after recuperation in the convalescent hospital and related analysis. Methods To analyze changes of red blood cell and hemoglobin counts in the naval aviators of type I aircraft (85 aviators), type Ⅱ aircraft (59 aviators) and type Ⅲ aircraft (42 aviators) before and after recuperation in the convalescent hospital, and their relationship was analyzed by using linear regression method. Results Red blood cell and hemoglobin counts in the naval aviators both before and after recuperation in the convalescent hospital were all within normal ranges. Red blood cell counts decreased, while hemoglobin levels elevated, after recuperation. Closer correlation between red blood cell counts and hemoglobin levels could be noticed in the aviators, following recuperation in the convalescent hospital. The correlation between red blood cell counts and hemoglobin levels in type Ⅲ aviators seemed to be closer than that of the type Ⅰ and type Ⅱ aviators. Conclusion Different aircraft types and different flying operations had impact on red blood cell counts and hemoglobin levels, and recuperation could improve the blood quality of aviators.
