Wang Fuling:Intoxicating Story-telling with Drum Accompaniment

古语常说：“闻香识女人”，可是我认识王福玲却是从“闻声”开始。 “天恩，你先把弦儿调好吧。下一个节目就到咱俩了。赶紧准备吧。”循着这个熟悉的岫岩口音，一位穿着黑绒面旗袍、略施粉黛的中年女人就这样走进我的眼帘。

Wang Fuling is an excellent story-teller with drum accompaniment in northeastern China.She said, "I have two teachers.One is my early mentor.The other is my professional teacher who carefully taught me the skills of singing,beating drum and playing clappers." She loved story-telling with drum accompaniment.She formally performed it on the stage only after one year of learning and gave the performance for over five years.However,in the 1980 s,with the advent of television and other recreational means,the story-telling performance was impacted and its market gradually shrank.But Wang Fuling always believed that the story-telling with drum accompaniment in northeastern China would be revitalized.After Xiuyan story-telling with drum accompaniment was rated as an item of national intangible cultural heritage in2008,the governments of the province and the county have vigorously supported the story-telling performance through building a platform for story-tellers to make exchanges and give performance,making this art known to the public again.
