There are many different versions of A Dream in Red Mansions and some versions are different from the others in content,which has drawn great attention from the academic circle. Since the 20 th century,different scholars have different views upon which is best among the 13 versions of A Dream in Red Mansions. Some believe that the versions that showthe real writing of Cao Xueqin are the best; while others believe that the versions with the vivid description and artistic influence are the best,and there are still others who stick to both the two views. This paper attempts to overviewsuch researches for almost a century,which is undoubtedly meaningful for the further study of A Dream in Red Mansions in the future.
