Objective To investigate the application feasibility and clinical value of low-dose CT scans in AIDS patients comp-licated with low PCP body mass. Methods 69 AIDS patients with low PCP body mass were ran-domly divided into 3 groups and scanned respectively with a tube voltage fixed at 120kV, conventional dose (automat-ic mAs) and low-dose, with the low-dose scanning tube current being 40mAs, 30mAs and 20mAs respectively. The image quality and radiation dose were analyzed in order to gain the optimal low dose scanning solution in AIDS pa-tients complicated with low PCP body mass. Results The images obtained by both conventional dose scanning and low-dose scanning could meet the requirements of imaging diagnosis. The average radiation CTDIvol obtained in the group using the fixed tube voltage 120kV, with a tube current of the conventional dose, 40 mAs, 30 mAs and 20 mAs was respectively:6. 65mGy, 2. 06 mGy, 1. 54 mGy and 1. 03 mGy, with the group using tube current 20 mAs being the lowest, 15. 5% of the group using conventional dose. Conclusion The image quality of low-dose chest CT scans using a tube voltage value fixed at 120kV and a tube current 20mAs in AIDS patients combined with low PCP body mass can meet the requirements of clinical diagnosis, and at the same time, it can reduce the radiation dose.
