Objective To observe the curative effect of neural stem cells (NSCs) implantation into stratums on Parkinson disease. Methods NSCs (dose, 0.25 ml containing 3x107 NSCs) were transplanted into the striatums in each of 21 patients with Parkinson disease (age range, 42-79 year; mean age, 57.33 years) treated in Navy General Hospital from January, 2006 to December, 2008, of whom, 15 were males and 6 females. The neural function and life quality in all the patients were assessed by Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), Hoehn-Yahr Scale, Parkinson's Disease Questionaire (PDQ-39) and Schwab-England Scale before the transplantation and from 6 to 49 months (mean, 24.9 months) after the transplantation. Results The scores of UPDRS, the Hoehn-Yahr scale and PDQ-39 were significantly lower 6 months after the transplantation than those before the transplantation in the 21 patients (P〈0.01). The scores of Schwab-England Scale was significantly higher 6 months after the transplantation than those before the transplantation in all the patients (P〈0.01). Clinical symptoms such as tremor, rigidity, slow movement, unstable posture and so on were significantly improved after the transplantation in all the patients. Conclusions The clinical symptoms may be relieved and the life quality may be improved by the transplantation of NSCs into the striatums in the patients with Parkinson disease.
