Nangong Kuo asked Confucius, said: 'Yi was a mightly archer and Ao shook the boat; yet both of them came to a bad end. Whereas Yu and Ji, who devoted themselves to agriculture, came into possession of all that is under Heaven. At the time Confucius made no reply, but when Nangong Kuo had withdrawn he said: 'He is a superior man indeed, is that man! He has a right appraisal of virtue's power, has that man!'
