On Construction of World-class Universities of China——Inspiration from learning the speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the discussion with faculty and students at Peking University

习近平总书记在北京大学师生座谈会上明确提出"办好中国的世界一流大学",这不仅是实现"两个一百年"奋斗目标的要求,而且也是中国和平崛起的要求。中国的世界一流大学建设应当重视其世界性特征,更应光大其中国特色,应当坚持弘扬中国的核心价值观,服务中国人民和中国发展,引领人类文化科技进步,尊重多元文化、促进相互理解与融合。办好中国的世界一流大学应当是一大批大学的自觉行为,需要经过长期的艰苦的努力方可能取得成功。

General Secretary Xi Jinping clearly stated that ＂to construct world-class universities of China＂ on the discussion with faculty and students at Beijing University, which is not only the requirement to achieve ＂the objective of two hundred years＂, but also the demand of China＇s peaceful rise. To construct world-class universities of China, attention should pay not only to its cosmopolitan characteristics, but also to cultivate its Chinese features, carry forward China core values, serve the Chinese people and China＇s development, lead cultural and technological progress of human-beings, respect cultural diversity and promote mutual understanding and integration. It should be a conscious behavior of a large number of universities to construct world-class universities of China, which needs to go through a long arduous efforts.
