One of the first works visitors see in the most extensive exhibition of works by Paul Chan to date is Volumes [detail] (2012): two massive walls covered with 1,005 book covers on which various squares--black, grey, white, or gradiated--are painted. The books vary: there's an atlas of the world, a book on sexual orientation and the law, one on how to cook like a Jewish mother, a Bible translated into Chinese, and pub- lications such as Modern Painting and Aspects of Modern Art.
