Chin is one of the most ancient Chinese stringed instruments. Before about 300 BC, musicians stroke but not played Chin. This means that there comes a transformation in feat ; and it implies that something important has taken place in culture. With a means of doing explanations of words in ancient books, this paper will preliminarily interpret the connotation of playing Chin and striking Chin. And conclude that Chin was not a stringed instrument by playing, but a stringed instrument whose strings are plucked by means of quills or plectrums before the Warring States Period.
