撒拉语从根本上说属于突厥语族乌古斯语组,但受察哈台语组语言的影响较大,还受克普恰克语组语言一定程度的影响。这篇文章曾在德国美茵茨2001年的学术研讨会上宣读,探讨了用于确定撒拉语在突厥语谱系树中地位的词汇问题。

The Salar language basically belongs to the Oghuz subgroup of Turkic, but has undergone considerable influence from the Chagatay subgroup, and to a lesser extent from the Kypchak subgroup. This article, originally presented as a conference paper in Mainz （Germany） in 2001, discusses the lexical arguments that can be used to determine the position of the Salar language within the Turkic family tree.
