A Novel Probe into the Efficiency and Effect of Ellipsis in English from the Perspective of the Language Economy Principle

省略在语言使用中非常普遍,它可以让语言简洁,避免冗余。语言经济原则是指导人类信息传递的一条根本性准则。本文力图从语言经济原则视角出发,围绕省略目的分析英语发音、词法、句法、情景和语义等语言层面的省略现象,在此基础上探讨省略与套语、替代和单部句之间的区别,进一步揭示省略在不同语体中的功能。

Ellipsis is a common phenomenon in language application, which can render language more concise and avoid redundant ver- bal utterances. The economical principle of language is a fundamental rule guiding human information dissemination. From the perspective of language economy principle, this paper aims to exploring English ellipsis as regards phonology, morphology, syn- tax, context, and semantics in comparison with formulas, substitutions, and one-member sentences for the further sake of revea- ling distinct functions in different stylistic situations.
