Cohesion in Chinese and English Proverbs of Complex Sentences

汉语和英语的复句型、紧缩型谚语作为短语篇,在衔接方面呈现许多相同之处,如重视词汇衔接和语序,都很少使用省略。也有不同之处,汉语在重复、标点、语序和韵律上均比英语多,但几乎不用指代和连接;而英语较多使用连接。汉英谚语的这些异同,有些符合汉英语言的普遍情况,有些则仅限于谚语本身。

Proverbs formed complex sentences in Chinese and English have many similarities in cohesion such as emphasis on lexical meaning and word order,and rare use of ellipsis.But Chinese proverbs more frequently use repetition,comma,word order and prosody and rarely use pronouns and conjunctions, whereas English relies more on conj unctions.The similarities and differences reflect some of the features of the two languages in general,but some are only restricted in the proverbs.
