从培根《论读书》中看英语意合句的翻译

The Translation of Parataxis Sentences in Bacon's Of Studies

形合意合是英汉两种语言都有的表达方式,只是不同的语言倾向的侧重点不同,很对人错误地把英语定义为形合句,汉语定义为意合句。将以培根论文集中的《论读书》为例,阐述英语中意合句的存在现象,并探究其在汉语中的翻译策略,以求能为英汉互译工作贡献些绵薄之力。

The linguistic features of hypotaxis and parataxis exist both in English and Chinese, only differ in the inclina- tion. English tends to be more hypotaxis, and Chinese tends to be more parataxis. However the two kinds of inclination are wrongfully regarded as the nature of two languages. Through a carefully study of Francis Bacon＇s famous essay： Of Study, this paper tries to correct that wrong fixed idea and proves the substantial existence of parataxis languages in Eng- lish. Besides that, it also goes to a further step to find out an appropriate way to translate those parataxis languages into Chinese, and provides a little help to translation practice.
