A Brief Look at the Lantern Festival Customs and Square Prop Dances in Zhaoqing

肇庆的元宵灯俗活动丰富多彩,各种花灯五彩缤纷,由花灯演变、发展而来的广场道具舞独具特色,在广东省内具有一定的影响,怀集的三星公龟鹿鹤舞、凤舞为其代表。显示势力和祈望平安是其主要的社会功能,形神兼备、虚实结合、形声模拟、寓意象征是其特有的审美特点。

Folk activities during the Lantern Festival in Zhaoqing are rich and colorful. Having originated from the lantern activities, the Square Prop Dances, now with their unique features, attract lots of tourists in Guangdong province. Sanxing Gong Gui Deer and Crane dance as well as Phoenix Dance are represeaatatives of the dances, displaying such social functions as praying for peace and showing power. The aesthetic features of these dances include paying attention to both content and form, void and solid, simulation of shape and sound, as well as implication and symbol.
