As an important article for the study of Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, The Author＇s Preface has never failed to attract the attention of its translators. In 2006, Penguin Books published the John Minford version of Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, which contains the translation of The Author＇s Preface. Minford＇s translation is featured by a large amount of annotations in explaining the allusions, the use of free verse in mimicking the parallel structures, the adoption of rhyming and metric strategies in representing the rhythm patterns and versatile techniques in producing rich images close to the original, thus demonstrating a high standard in faithfulness and artistic qualities.
