A Comparative Study on Clark Kerr's and John Daniel's Views of Multiversity

巨型大学是在高等教育大众化背景之下产生的一种新的大学样式,也是信息化时代发展的新型产物。克拉克·克尔与约翰·丹尼尔分别基于传统大学和远程教育大学两个既有区别又有联系的高等教育机构提出了各自的"巨型大学观"。文章对两者提出该理念的背景及概念内涵、大学与外界关系进行梳理并加以比较分析。在互联网、人工智能、云计算等信息技术的快速发展的趋势下,巨型大学将会发挥越来越重要的作用,它将为构建终身学习社会提供一个引擎。

Multiversity is a new style of university,which is generated under the background of popularization of higher education.It is also a new product of the development of information age.Clark Kerr and John Daniel both put forward their views of multiversity on the basis of two different but related concepts,that is,the traditional university and the university of distance education.This paper makes a comparative study of their proposing backgrounds,its connotation and university relations with the outside world.With the trend of fast development of information technology,such as the internet,artificial intelligence and cloud computing,multiversity will play a more and more important role and be an engine in constructing a lifelong learning society.
