Transitivity and Modality Analysis of Bush's Presidential Victory Speeches

作为系统功能语言学中的两个重要方面,及物性和情态分析成为了批评性语篇分析在文本分析层面所采用的主要方法和手段,这有助于批评性语篇分析者从整体上了解语篇的交际目的和可能产生的意识形态,从而进一步阐释语言与意识形态之间的关系。本文以2000年布什总统胜选演说为语料,通过对语料文本语言层面的及物性和情态动词分析来探究布什在演说过程中隐含在语篇间的意识形态意义。

As two important aspects of Systematic Functional Linguistics , the analysis of transitivity and modality are mainly used in the critical discourse analysis , which helps the analysts to understand the communicative purpose and hidden ideologies of discourse , even interprets the relationship between language and ideology.This paper adopts Bush （2000）’ s presidential victory speeches as analysis data , so as to probe the hidden ideologies among the speeches in the light of transitivity and modality.
