As the representative tea monograph, The Classic of Tea carries out the core thought of the Confucianism-- the Golden Mean, which has a far-reaching impact on the transmission of the Chinese tea culture. The English translation of it is of great significance to the spreading of the traditional Chinese tea culture. By the textual analysis and the discussion of the translation approaches, this paper exemplifies the fact that communicative translation （CT） is adopted more frequently than semantic translation （ST） for the informative transferring in the interlingnal translation. However, when it comes to culture conveyed in the original, ST is a better choice. This further confirms Newmark＇ s theory that any translation activity is not exclusive; ST and CT methods should be used flexibly in the target language. The conclusion is that as a whole, CT and ST should be combined holistically so as to translate the Golden Mean more accurately and dynamically in the Chinese tea classics.
