论江南乡村女巫的近代境遇

On the Modern Circumstances of Rural Witches South of the Yangtze River

历久相沿的江南乡村女巫,在崇尚进化、科学的近代中国时常引起精英阶层的评议而多被否定,不断遭遇政权的取缔又屡禁不止。同时,普通民众尤其是江南村妇积极崇奉女巫,女巫由此获得的境遇与在政权—知识精英那里迥然有别。完全不同的境遇源自传统小世界和文明大世界的各别逻辑。厘清两个世界之间的逻辑差异,近代女巫的零乱境遇才会显出清晰的脉络,进而,女巫—村妇的"怪异"性才能得到合理的解释;日常逻辑应该在日常世界里理解。

Rural witches have a long history in the regions south of the Yangtze River.In a modern China that admires evolution and science,they have often been criticized and opposed by elites.Despite constant suppression by the authorities,though,they have persisted.At the same time,ordinary people,in particular rural women in the regions south of the Yangtze River,actively admired witches.As a result,the witches' local circumstances were very different from those imposed by the authorities and intellectual elites.These completely different circumstances originate in the different logics of the small,traditional world and the big,civilized world.Only by clarifying the differences in the two worlds' logics can we clarify the chaotic circumstances faced by witches in modern times.Further,only through this approach can we clearly and reasonably explain the ' strangeness' of witches and rural women.Ordinary logic must be understood in the ordinary world.
