The important contribution of Dewey in aesthetics lies first in subverting the tradition of western aesthetics, establishing the important position of aesthetic experience and rebuilding the deep connection between art and experience of life. His careful observation of the aesthetic qualities of the everyday experience, as well as the redefinition of the natural and artistic beauty based on the continuity of the experience and the nature, have important apocalyptic significance contemporary aesthetics. The contemporary turn of world aesthetics could be traced to the Art as Experience written by Dewey in 1934. Though Dewey's theory of aesthetic experience has many defects, it could explain contemporary art practice more effectively in many cases and could even provide guidance for the preservation of cultural relics, design of urban construction and the protection of natural landscape.
