佛教能够在美国得以传播,首先得归功于汉传佛教的传入,汉传佛教早在19世纪中叶就在美国西岸悄然登陆,又在20世纪60年代后兴旺发达,再加上日本禅宗的推波助澜,藏传佛教又将其推到极致,使佛教在北美深入人心,影响到北美政治、经济、文化的方方面面。

The spread of Buddhism in America is firstly due to the arriving of Chinese Buddhism, which came to American west coast in the middle of 19th century, and became prosperous after 6os in the 20th century. Together With the aid of Japanese Zen, and Tibetan Buddhism＇s pushing it to the utmost, Buddhism is deeply rooted in North America, influencing many aspects of North America＇s politics, economics and culture.
