On the Political Imagination of the Cultural Criticism

在现代社会的发展历史过程中,如果社会处在变动、转型、失范的时段,文化批评就会相对繁荣发展。而如何发挥文化批评的批判力,重新认识并凸显当前文化批评的政治内涵,已经成为文化批评不得不面对的命题。辩证意象的想象力、社会学的想象力和乌托邦的想象力,乃是文化批评政治想象力的核心。丧失了这种想象力,文化批评就往往沦为道德谴责、政治批判或者技术论证。

In the historical development of a modem society, cultural criticism would always enjoy a relative prosperity in the society undergoing changes, transformations, and anomie. Meanwhile, the emergence of propositions as to how to fulfill the critical functions of cultural criticism and how to redefine and reinforce its political connotations can never be neglected. The key concept of the political imagination of cultural criticism is constructed by the imagination of dialectical images, sociological imagination and the utopian imagination. Without the political imagination, cultural criticism is likely to be reduced to moral condemnations, political attacks and technical argumentations.
