钍在中子轰击下能生成可裂变的U233,是最有效潜在的核燃料;在非能源领域,钍还用于制作特种合金、催化剂、高温陶瓷材料等,钍是极其重要的战略资源。包头白云鄂博矿钍资源量大,随铁、稀土采选,提取分离技术成熟,生产成本低。国内外钍资源核能利用开展了大量研究开发工作,并在各种实验堆和动力堆中予以应用。因此,应保护好钍资源,尽快实施包头钍资源战略储备。
Thorium can generate fissionable U-233 by neutron bombardment and is the most effective potential nuclear fuel. In non - energy fields, thorium is also used for production of special alloys , catalyst and ceramic materials. Thorium is an extremely important strategic resource. Thorium reserves in Bayan Obo ore are thought to be huge. Bayan Obo thorium is produced along with iron and raise earth with mature technology and low cost. There has been considerable research and development work abotit thorium resources utilization in nuclear energy at home and abroad , as well as application in a variety of experimental nuclear reactor and power reactors. Therefore thorium resource in Baotou should be protested and strategic reserves of thorium resource should be implemented as early as possible.
