In the early modem philosophy, theory of ideas is a kind of theory of intentionality. It attempts to reduce intentionality of our mental states to representational idea. Scottish philosopher Thomas Reid criticized theory of ide- as systemically and thoroughly. He described our intentional mental states positively and confirmed that we have non - intentional mental states. Though Reid never proposed a theory of intentionality, he made the problem of intention- ality salient.
