摘要
以国际标准ISO 6929—1987钢产品定义和分类为依据,对广泛存在于钢铁专业文献和汉英词典中的"钢材"误译进行了评析。首先指出钢材的各类误译,并以钢材内涵和外延为切入点,逐条对照、评析;继而阐明英文术语应以英文专业文献尤其是权威英文原版标准为准的基本准则,并从术语理据、译语探踪等方面论证了"钢材"正确、规范的英译文;最后给出了"钢材"的其他英文译名,并说明了它们的使用语境。
On the basis of ISO 6929--1987： steel products-definitions and classification, the widespread wrong translation of ＂gangcai＂ in iron and steel literatures and Chinese-English dictionaries were analysed. First, it points out all kinds of wrong translations of gangcai, and they were one by one analyzed through comparing their connotations and denotations with those of ＂gangcai＂. Next, it expounds a basic principle of taking the english terms in english special literatures, especially in authoritative english original edition standards as right terms, and proves the right normative english translation of ＂gangcai＂ in terms of argument and different contexts. Finally, other english translations were given and the using conditions of them were explained.
