描述、连接与检索都是编制机读书目数据时必不可少的技术手段。其中,描述体现的是客观性原则,连接强调的是有效性原则,检索追求的是规范性原则。编目员在编目时只有准确掌握并合理运用这些基本原则,才能确保书目数据的标准化与规范化,为读者识别、检索和利用文献提供可靠依据。

The description, the connection and the retrieval are indispensable technical means of cataloging Machine Readable Catalogue （MARC） bibliographic data. Thereinto, the objectivity principle is manifested in the description, the effectiveness principle is emphasized in the connection, and the normalization principle is aspired in the retrieval. In the cataloging, catalogers only master truly and apply reasonably these basic principles, could ensure the standardization and the normalization of bibliographic data, provide reliable bases of identifying, retrieving and applying documents for readers.
