摘要 The establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community more than 60 years ago contributed to the birth of the EU, which guaranteed the long-term peace in West Europe after the two world wars in the 20th century. The EU thus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012, in part for its efforts to overcome economic struggles and social unrest in the region.
