Hamlet's depression has always been noticed, while his mania has been ignored. Hamlet's surging thoughts, enlarging consciousness and his violence towards the queen and Ophelia are all the symptoms of mania. Hamlet' s mania is mixed with depression. Under this mixed mood, he reflected deeply on life and death. As a form of madness, Hamlet' s depressive mania has an ultimate status in Shakespeare's plays both aesthetically and philosophically.
