In Japan, both traditional house and modern design house give us a sense of ambiguousness. The sense of ambiguousness is defined as ＂uncertainty＂ . The uncertainty in design is a major feature of house design in Japan. This article describes the development of house design in Japan, and discusses the uncertainty in house design by researching the partition board and sliding door together with exploring the two cases of house design in Japan. Furthermore, the article makes a deep analysis in the connection between the uncertainty and the sense of beauty, the view of nature and the conception of design.
