D. H. Lawrence＇s poetry puts great emphasis on ＂sense awareness＂, among which ＂the sense of touch＂ is the most salient and philosophical. In Lawrence＇s poetry, touch is the expression of love between parents and children and also between the different sexes. Lawrence contends that a healthy and complete person should be the unity of both the body and the mind. However, the ultimate goal of touch is not the physical body, but the emotion and human soul. By means of this sense of touch, there should form a communication and interaction among human beings, other beings and the universe . For the modern people who llve in a mechanical and materialized civilization, the touch awareness will save them from ＂solipsism＂ and the emotional impoverishment by finding a way back to love, harmony and wholeness.
