作为清代著名的文学家与史学家,赵吉士一生不但政绩突出,而且在学术上也颇多建树。他编修的《徽州府志》《交城县志》,不仅为地方史研究留下了珍贵的资料,也集中体现了他治学特点,即能著述,务实学,志史乘,多严谨。他严谨务实的学术风格主要源于清代学风由虚导实的转变以及恩师叶又生对其一生的影响。也正是缘于此,他的学术研究得到了当时文人和后世学者的认可。

A s the famous writer and historian in the Qing Dynasty, Zhao Jishi has made both outstanding achievements in his official career and great contribution in the sphere of learning in his whole life. He has edited and revised Huizhou Government Records and The Annals of Jiaocheng County, which not only have served as precious data for the research on the local history, but also embody a concentrated reflection of his academic characteristics, namely, ability to write, dealing with realistic learning, devotion to historical records and rigorous scholarship. His rigorous and pragmatic academic style is mainly due to the style of study changing from virtuality-oriented one to reality-oriented one in the Qing Dyn.asty as well as the influence of his mentor, Ye Yousheng, on his whole life. Also because of this, his academic research has been recognized by scholars at his time and the later ones.
