A Rose for Emily ,which is the masterpiece of William Faulkner,depicts the oppression upon human nature in American south-ern society via Emily＇s miserable story.In the constant struggles against the oppression which came from her father and the society,Emily lost her mind and that caused the final tragedy due to the inhibition opposed by Patriarchy and Puritanism.In the light of the analysis of Emily＇s trag-edy,Faulkner＇s deep sympathy and admiration for traditional southern women is vividly shown.
