Some Random Thoughts on American Studies

对美国许多高校开展“美国学”研究，过去虽早有所闻，但因种种原因，未加深究，因而长期来对这一研究所涉及的对象、内容、范围以及方法，均不甚了了。去年十月二十五日至十一月十九日，中国美国学考察团一行八人，应美中学术交流委员会的邀请，在美进行为期三周的访问，实地考察了加利福尼亚大学伯克莱分校等十二所大学的美国学教学与研究的情况。

This article beging with a brief introduction to the origins, developments, and the current issues of American Studies as interdiscipllnary programs being offered in the institutions of higher learning in the United States of America. And it goes on discussing the importance and possibilities of setting up both American Studies and Chinese Studies programs in Chinese universities in the ight of Chinats reality in order yo favilitate the strenuous historical task of building a new modernized China.
