光辉的历程 崇高的使命——庆祝南京大学建校90周年

THE GLORIUS COURSE AND SUBLIME MISSION——ON THE 90th ANNIVERSARY OF NANJING UNIVERSITY

从1902年迄今，南京大学走过了90年的历程。这是它在社会进步和科学发展汇流中不断前进和作出卓越贡献的90年。在这一历程中，南京大学成了融汇着爱国精神、科学精神、开放精神的优良传统。今天，南京大学正面临着新的目标——“把南京大学办成具有国际影响和富有特色的教学、科研中心”。

Ever since 1902, Nanjing University has undergone a course of 90 years,a course marked by the University's incessant progress and outstanding achievements within the general torrents of social progress and scientific development. During this period, Nanjing University has formed its own fine tradition that incorporates the spirits of patriotism, science and opening to the outside world. Today the University is confronted with a new goal: 'Turn Nanjing University into an internationally influential teaching and research center with its own characteristics'. in order to attain this goal, it must 'orient itself correctly, give full play to its advantages, adapt itself to new situations, and open further to the outside world.' Specifically, it must give due attention to six major tasks, i.e. orienting to social needs and enhancing the University's vitality;strengthening the construction of advantaged disciplines; increasing the percentage of excellent students in personnal cultivation, giving special attention to key research projects; building up a team of internationally renowned scholars of a wide range of disciplines; and turning the University into an international academic center.
