The author gives a systematic and comprehensive introduction, analysis and appraisal of B. C. Brookes iundamental theory of information science, the main contents oi which include： looking for the philosophical foundation of information science, and describing such aspects as the fundamental relationship equation for information and knowledge, the quantitative methods in information science, and the principle of knowledge organization, etc.
