河内太守是北魏时期河内郡的最高行政长官,除领兵治乱、维持治安之外,教化百姓、发展经济、征收赋税等也是其重要职责。由于河内战略地位重要,河内太守也负有接纳归附民众等特殊责任,因此受到中央政府重视,享有较高的政治待遇。因政治形势的变化,北魏时期河内太守的任、升、降都呈现出复杂化倾向。

Henei Prefecture in Northern Wei Dynasty presented an important strategic position, and the Henei Prefect as the chief executive shouldered key duties to preserve the law and order, to edficate the population, to develop economy, to levy taxes, and to admit the capitulated masses, so the central government gave priority to Henei Prefect, and thus Henei Prefect enjoyed a higher political treatment. But due to the variation of political situations, appointment and promotion or demotion turned out a ccomplexity.
