编纂于清朝乾隆时期的《四库全书总目》,是中国古代学术文化进入成熟、总结阶段的目录学巨著,它既体现着古典文化生成、流变的轨迹,又反映着清代前期学术文化的思想精神。《四库全书总目》在开展规模宏大的史学批评时,凸显出内涵丰富的史学价值判断和史学思想理论,不仅涵括了对史学自身性质的认识,更为重要的是拓展了对史学与社会相互关系的认识,从不同侧面诠释了史学正统观、功用观和经世观,鲜明地表现了史学思想内核和价值取向,形成了系统的史学思想体系,标志着古代史学理论的成熟和完善。

Compiled during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, The Catalogue of Si Ku Quan Shu is a masterpiece of bibliography of traditional Chinese academic culture in mature. It embodies not only the track of creating and developing of the classical culture but also reflects the academic and cultural thoughts of the early Qing reign. While carrying out large-scale historiography criticism, the Catalogue underscores rich connotation of the historical values and theories. It includes the understanding of its own character of history and expands the understanding of the association between historiography and society. It clearly expresses the interpretation of the historical orthodox, function and statecraft view. And it distinctively demonstrates the core ideology and the value orientation of historical thought. The Catalogue forms one systematic history thought,further more marks the maturity and perfection of the ancient historiography theory.
