The "Buddha's Parade" on February 8th of the Chinese lunar calendar in ancient Dunhuang and the "The Prince's Outing" held on the same day in modem Jianchuan are both examples of Buddhist folk activities that, though separated by a millennium, seem to share a common origin. Both of them are used to celebrate the Four Encounters of Sakyamuni when he was a prince.
