Aboutthe Compilation of Li Weizhen's Comment on Shitong

关于李维桢、郭孔延、《史通》三者之间的关系,清代《四库全书总目》的说法错误较多,不足尽据。李郭二人是各自撰写自己评论《史通》的著作的,并没有相约著书,不存在年轻的郭孔延为年长的李维桢续作评释的情况,相反倒是郭孔延写作在前,李维桢反在其后。郭孔延是依据李维桢提供的张之象校刻本《史通》修订其书的,并非没有见到张之象刻本。李维桢也应该是依据这一刻本来撰写其书的。二人著作的合刊本不是出自二人之手,而是出自第三者。

A lot of mistakes exist in the Sikuquanshu （Complete Collection of the Four Treasuries） concerning the relationship between Li Weizhen, Guo Kongyan and Shitong, making it an unreliable source on that. Li Weizhen and Guo Kongyan wrote their own comments on Shitong separately and independently, i. e. , they never planned to both write on the book, and there was no such thing that the older Li Weizhen started the project and was succeeded by the younger Guo Kongyan; in fact, Guo started his comments earlier, to be followed later by Li. Guo got from Li a copy of Shitong that Zhang Zhixiang collated and published, but not the real Zhang Zhixiang edition. Li Weizhen also used this copy for comments. Guo and Li did not put their comments together to form one book; it was done by a third party later on.
