唐末五代禅僧出家考——以《禅林僧宝传》为例

A Probe into Conversion to Buddhism for Zen Monks in Five Dynasties in Late Tang Dynasty:A Case Study of The Life of Zen Monks

唐末五代时期的禅僧们个人素质好,天赋高,他们或具有英豪的气魄,或聪慧绝伦,或思想深邃,是当时社会的精英。他们选择出家主要是因为宿缘和为佛教义理所吸引,而不是因为社会动荡逃避社会。禅僧出家使得中古社会精英分流,对唐末五代的政治和文化产生了很大影响。

During the period of the Late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties,Zen monks usually had good personal qualities and high gifts. They were heroic,or incomparably intelligent,or profound in thought;and many of them became social elites. They chose conversion just because of predestined belief and their obsession with Buddhist philosophy,not because of social unrest and evasion from society. Zen monks＇ choice of conversion branched out from social elites,bringing significant impact on politics and culture in the Late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties.
