The plaza is situated in a historical harbour area in south Stockholm. The area is now slowly transformed into a new city district, forming the main public space in this part of town. The site itself slopes towards the north and eventually meets the waters of Lake Malaren, which the water course containing the islands on which the city of Stockholm is built.
