This paper offers case studies of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone＇s polycentric structure and block development model,statutory planning guidelines and basic ecological controls as the defining factors of the success of the city＇s urban planning practice.It also illustrates the thinking that underscores Shenzhen＇s planning practice and the crucial impact of a particular historical era on the city＇s healthy development.In addition,this paper also analyzes the practical significance of Shenzhen＇s planning practice for other currently undergoing rapid urbanization,as well as its academic value in terms of urban planning theory.
