The Impression of Korean Capital City Under Japan's Colonial Rule——From the Perspective of Chinese who Travelled in Korea

日本殖民统治时期,朝鲜的首都被改称为京城,城市面貌也发生了重大变化,成为了一座有着繁华的商业街市、发达的交通系统和完善的市政管理的近代大都市。作为京城的匆匆过客,虽然也有一些中国人惊叹京城面貌的巨变,赞叹日本殖民者的"治绩",但多数中国访客还是从京城的巨变中看到了殖民统治对朝鲜民众、朝鲜文化、朝鲜精神的摧残,使他们领悟到了强加的"进步"和"发展"带来的只能是伤害和破坏。

Under the Japanese colonialist domination, the capital of Korea was named as capital city and the appearance of the city also had undergone great changes, which brought the modem metropolis with the bustling commercial street, the devel- oped transportation systems and the perfect municipal management. As a traveler staying in Seoul for a short time, some Chinese were amazed at the great changes of the capital city and admired Japanese colonists＇ ＂governance achievement＂, while most of the Chinese travelers from these changes saw the destroy of colonial rule to Korean people, Korean culture and Korean spirit which made them realize that the only thing brought into by the imposed ＂progress＂ and ＂development＂ is harm and destroy.
