Reflections on the Rise of Cognitive Sociolinguistics

认知社会语言学作为一种新的研究理论和范式,本文对其三大进步之处做了探讨:从理论发展来看,社会变量的引入打破了先前研究将认知作为无关乎社会文化的自我封闭个体的束缚;从方法论来看,解释学观点在对原有现象学方法进行批判的同时,也有利于展现认知的真实面貌;从应用价值来看,加深了对语义变异、认知文化模式以及意识形态的研究。文章还讨论了当前研究存在矫枉过正的危险,以及未来在神经层面解释社会与认知交互作用的可能性。

The social orientation that cognitive linguistics has recently taken can be deemed as a significant strategic shift.This paper offers an appraisal of and reflection on this new approach from the perspectives of theoretical development,epistemology,methodology and application.The basic idea of cognitive sociolinguistics is that cognitive study should not take place in a close and homogeneous manner isolated from its socio-cultural context.Cognition is constrained by its cultural context and is at the same time a part of it,constantly changing and restructuring the culture.Cognitive study is advantageous in that while criticizing the traditional research methods,it also helps disclose the real essence of cognition and reveals the interaction of society and cognition at the neural level.
