According to the latest related references published at home and aboard, this review introduces the mechanism, development, application and various technologies of gastroretentive drug delivery systems with regard to the size, density and mechanism of the dosage form, including floating drug delivery system, mucoadhesive drug delivery system, expandable drug delivery system, rafting forming system and drug delivery systems with sev- eral synergistic principles. This study also attempts to discuss various factors like formulation factors, physiological factors, physiological factors and drug properties to be considered in the development of gastroretentive drug delivery system, describes the hotspots of gastroretentive dosage forms and reveals their wide application prospects.
