James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake is not only the forerunner of post-modern literature,but also demonstrates the medieval aesthetics which makes it possible to overstep the limit of modernism.Among those texts inthe Middle Ages,Book of Kells is the key to understand the medieval aesthetics in Finnegans Wake.The religious theme in Book of Kells leads Joyce to reconsider the Original Sin and the destiny of mankind from the religious perspective;the richness,complication,variation of the paintings in Book of Kells inspires the rich style and the poetics of sublime in Finnegans Wake.This Paper would illuminate the medieval aesthetics implied in Finnegans Wake which is different from the modern one by analyzing the relationship between Finnegans Wake and Book of Kells.
